Arriving in Gütersloh the first surprise occured soon. The evening was planned as a double event together with GURU GURU. But the band, headed by 'Elektrolurch' Mani Neumeier,
had to cancel the performance because of some illness unfortunately. The BIRTH CONTROL members were on their own this evening - but they managed it successfully!
This german band exists since the early 70s always pushed by drummer/singer
Bernd 'Nossi' Noske and is bestknown because of their hymns 'Gamma Ray' and 'Hoodoo Man'.
In a cheerful manner they performed a best-of cross-section from their albums (the last one appeared in 2003).
Musically stamped by the blues origin they played very good heavy rock songs provided with a jazzy and psychedelic flavour here and there. Main themes, melodies and lyrics of
the songs are often building the border for extended jams. First of all
Peter Engelhardt with his impressing guitar work has to be mentioned - not ignoring the presence
of the other band members.
Nossi - more than 60 years old - offered his mandatory drum solo provided with some gymnastic exercises - excellent condition man! And of course the extended nearly 30 minutes
lasting
Gamma Ray developed to an impressing parforce run.
It was a very good performance by the band this evening in Gütersloh - so nearly nobody missed GURU GURU afterwards (sorry Mani) ...
